Veolia provides solutions for Ecological Transformation. With nearly 179,000 employees worldwide, the Group designs and provides game-changing solutions that are both useful and practical for water, waste and energy management.
Since 2001, Veolia has provided waste management services in partnership with Sheffield City Council, managing waste from over 250,000 households across the city. General waste and recycling is collected by frontline crews and is then taken to Veolia Sheffield’s treatment facilities to make the most of the resources and contribute to a circular carbon economy.
Veolia Sheffield operates the Energy Recovery Facility on Bernard Road that transforms the city’s general waste into energy for the National Grid and heat for the award-winning District Energy Network, which serves over 125 buildings in the heart of the city. This means that less than 1% of Sheffield’s waste gets sent to landfill. Veolia also operates the Materials Recovery Facility at Beighton which sorts residents’ paper and card for recycling and manages five Household Waste Recycling Centres which accept a wide range of materials and waste streams.
